All of the things we use and love are made of thin

All of the things we use and love are made of things. Lots of things. Lots of 👀 invisible 👀 things.

Skincare is made from ingredients. This is pretty well understood (we think?). But things like apparel and furniture are also made of ingredients. It's not just the material you see, the leather or textiles, it's also the chemicals that are used to give it performance, look and feel, durability, etc.

Those ingredients are put on or next to our skin. And they end up in the environment when we wash the skincare off or dispose of the apparel.

So it's not great if those chemicals are environmentally harmful, toxic, or products of a fossil fuel derived, petrochemical supply chain. 🛢️🙅🏻

Our mission is help ensure a healthier future by replacing harmful chemicals with sustainable† alternatives – ingredients innovated with our Activated Silk™ biotech platform. 🔬👩🏽‍🔬🤍🌍️

Not only is our tech created to provide high levels of performance, but it's designed to be part of the circular economy, which has three general tenants:

Making things that are more sustainable is really not very easy. A lot of necessary processes aren't in place... keeping the costs of innovative tech down so sustainable solutions work at market scale is a real challenge... the cost of environmentally harmful materials is usually very low so current market solutions is hard to compete with. ⁠

Then, you have to figure out how to talk 💬 about sustainability. Which is very hard, because there are not many agreed-upon definitions for sustainable claims or concepts. 🌍️🤍🤷🏻⁠

Different companies can use the same term to mean different things. Some companies take advantage and use terms in misleading ways. 😖⁠
