Evolved By Nature Newsletter

September 28, 2020

We create healthier chemistry between people, the things they love, and the planet. We also create this bi-weekly newsletter — curated with interesting and inspiring stories relevant to anyone interested in making our industries and our economies more bioharmonious.

The framing of a global water crisis has been put on the back-burner as today’s climate-related disasters continue to make headlines. However, protecting water quality is not mutually exclusive and has never been more relevant in the climate crisis. CDP’s latest report, Interwoven Risks, Untapped Opportunities, focuses on water pollution – a problem that has been met with oversight by some of the world’s most polluting industries, including fashion. From toxicants like synthetic dyes and other chemicals to microfibers, the textile industry plays an enormous role in water pollution. Although there’s no coordinated effort to address this nearly unspoken problem, innovations that aim to mitigate this problem continue to develop – like our Activated SIlk technology. In tandem with this ongoing transformation, the industry must have frequent discussions and create coordinated plans to address widespread environmental degradation, including water quality protection.

Environmental crises seem to be often painted as highly conceptual, invisible risks. Especially today, we know all too well that “climate crisis,” “biodiversity loss” and more are phenomena with real-world repercussions, all amounting to a wider trend of cumulative environmental degradation. It is challenging, but worthwhile, to be positive in a time filled with crises and very few plans. Positivity doesn’t come without action. It is a continued discussion and self-evaluation. Inspired by the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a champion for equality and a reliable environmental supporter on the Supreme Court, we must continue to fight for the movements we care about in a way that will lead others to join us. Continuing to think up and implement climate-friendly, equitable solutions, no matter how many obstacles stand in the way, is the only path forward.
