With a new administration, comes a new philosophy towards the climate and chemicals.

There is a lot of making up to do with environmental well-being and public health, even as the US enters back into the international climate game. And "time" under these circumstances is something we can't win back. In response to a new administration, there is a recent surge in pressure over the public and private sectors to respond to impending and massive environmental change. Reports provide evidence that, economically, right now is the time to start strategizing sustainability- especially as niche environmentalist values now morph into the mainstream. Decarbonization is not the only item on the agenda. Circularity, more particularly, economic models that embrace social justice, are proving their worth in potentially closing the "emissions gap," the difference between the anticipated outcome of current national climate commitments that fall short of the necessary amount of emissions to be reduced.

In comes a new administration, shifting the expectation that regulations over industrial chemicals will become tighter and more vigorous. The political and legal forecast shows extra requirements for industries to protect more people under the Toxic Substances Control Act, allowing manufacturers to provide information on the toxicity, exposure, and other relevant data on chemical formulations used to make everyday products. That, paired with recent green chemistry reports from the GC3 and UNEP, amounts to a tremendous philosophical change in addressing chemical pollution taking shape in various forms: PFAS contamination, the soup of chemicals associated with microplastics, and more. It's still very early to tell, but maybe this way of thinking will set a habit of getting tough on mitigating hidden risks impacting human health.
